Refugee Ministry

Our team of over thirty volunteers at St. John’s Episcopal Church welcomes a new refugee family to our community each year. Some of these families have waited years to legally migrate to the United States from foreign nations to escape violence, war, and persecution. We provide acceptance, opportunity, support, and love to assist with their arrival, adjustment, and assimilation to their new home.

Our church operates under the direction of the Episcopal Migration Ministry with the assistance of the U.S. State Department and the International Organization for Migration. We ensure our sponsored family has housing, food, clothing, and healthcare for the first ninety days. During this time, we assist with finding work, applying for public benefits, enrolling in school, and erasing language and cultural barriers.

Though our intervention is short, we strive to provide a lifetime of hope, friendship, and love to refugees, one family at a time.

If you want to join our team, contact our chairperson, Cynthia Ramseur, St. John’s Episcopal Church, at (228) 875-4454. Many opportunities exist to help.
