Daughters of the King Little Dresses for Africa

Parish Office March 18, 2016

The Daughters of the King are collecting sewing items to begin this project. In May, we begin turning new and gently used pillowcases into dresses for little girls being raised by older siblings whose families have been destroyed by AIDS.

We need trim to add to the dresses to make them individual. If your sewing box is similar to many, that unused or ½ pack of rick rack or “what was I going to use that bias tape for?”, or other washable trims will make a difference. Do you have some cloth left over from that last project? Small pieces can become appliques and 1 yard or more will make another cute dress, cut from a pattern done by Martha Thompson. Thread of any color is needed. A handmade African basket has been placed in the parish hall to leave items. More information on this project can be found on the DOK bulletin board in the hall or call Ginny Dugaw 360-661-0691. Everyone is invited to join us at our first work party. We will begin making these dresses on Tuesday May 3rd at 10 am. Bring a brown bag lunch and stay for our regularly scheduled meeting at 1pm. It will be a fun day of fellowship and service for the little girls in Africa. Needed: Pillowcases, thread, washable trims, yard goods for appliques or dresses.
